No doubt, the Swiss Travel Pass is the premier method of seeing all the natural and architectural wonders of the country. Unlimited train, boat, and bus travel to get you from point A to point B really comes in handy.
Your options include a 3, 4, 8, or 15 day pass which can be consecutive days or flexible days within one month. The flex option will be a little pricier than consecutive days, but at least you can organize your days by the weather forecast.
Some scenic train rides and most cable lifts will not be included in the Swiss Travel Pass, but many fun activities will be half-price.
My advice is to purchase the Swiss Travel Pass when you are itching to see the country in its entirety and take your longest trips to get the most value.
Limit Meals at Restaurants
Going out to eat in Switzerland can be expensive. No matter if you are eating at a fine dining establishment or a fast food joint, prepare to cough up some change when utilizing services in Switzerland. Expect to pay well over 10 Fr (Swiss francs) for a fast food meal and 25 Fr and above at traditional sit down restaurants.
Save your going out to eat expenditures for special occasions or else food can eat away at your budget in a hurry.
Shop at Migros
If you want to avoid the high cost of going out to eat, you will need to make your meals from home. That means deciding on which grocery store suits best for selecting items for your meals.
My top choice goes to Migros for the overall value you obtain for the food you purchase. Coop City is another store I would put high on my list for its variety and routine deals.
However, for those on a budget, Migros takes the cake.
Visit a Chocolatier
You can find delicious chocolatey goodness in many places throughout Switzerland, but make sure you try homemade Swiss chocolate from a Chocolatier at least once during your trip.

Believe it or not, Switzerland has four official languages. German, French, Italian, and the rarely spoken Romansh are national languages of Switzerland.
The language you will hear most widely spoken and used on public signs depend on what region of the country you are in. Much of the central and eastern portion of the country speak German, the west is primarily French, and southern areas are predominantly Italian.
Not to worry if English is your native tongue as many residents speak English as a second language.
